The conference "Translation in Exile" will touch on questions of multilingualism and displacement, and on their methodological implications for translation studies, first and foremost with regard to translating literary texts as a political and cultural practice.
This international conference will be organized by the Centre for Literature in Translation of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and Ghent University, in cooperation with the University of Santiago de Compostela and the Federal University of Santa Catarina. It will take place on 10-11 Dec 2015 at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel.
The range of problems raised by diversity of languages in international economic and political integration processes calls upon innovative, efficient and fair language policies to manage multilingualism. Language policies are increasingly acknowledged as being a necessary component of many decisions taken in the areas of labour mobility, access to knowledge and higher education, social inclusion of migrants; and they can affect companies’ international competitiveness and the democratic control of international organisations.
The symposium "Economics, Linguistic Justice and Language Policy"aims to bring together economists, philosophers, applied linguists and sociolinguists, policy makers, legal scholars, and social scientists in general. The purpose is to discuss, from an interdisciplinary perspective, the socio-economic effects of language policies, the impact of language dynamics and language planning on justice and inequality at the national or international level, and also the connection between democracy, decision-making and linguistic diversity.
Under the auspices of the the MIME project, the Symposium will be organised by the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, School of Business and Economics in Berlin, on 2-3 March 2015.
RE-CODE - the research programme Responding to Complex Diversity in Europe and Canada - will organize a conference panel on the topic of “Complex Diversity and Its Politics: Assessing a New Research Agenda” which will be held October 23rd in Augsburg.
